Results Windows

Results windows are used for observing measured data numerically. There are two types of Results windows:

  • Full-size (Maxi) Results window.

  • Reduced-size (Mini) Results window.

To open a Results window, click the View|Results (Maxi) or View|Results (Mini) menu item.

Full-Size Results Window

The Full-size (Maxi) Results window (Fig. 20) displays measured data numerically. Basic results and errors or warnings can be read from a longer distance. The data are grouped in several boxes.

Reflection Coefficient Group

The Reflection Coefficient group displays:

  • Reflection coefficient magnitude in various formats (changed by right-clicking the unit display).

  • Reflection coefficient phase.

  • Measurement plane extension (only relevant for Load reflection coefficient).

The Show Load checkbox toggles display between Input (GI) and Load (GL) reflection coefficients. Details about GI and GL and their reference planes see in Input and Load Reflection Coefficients, Deembedding.

Frequency Group

The Frequency group displays the measured frequency and includes an associated LED lamp indicator.

  • If the frequency measurement is valid, the LED lamp is green and its label reads Valid.

  • If the frequency-measurement counter is disabled (via Homer|Counter), a substitute frequency is displayed instead, the associated LED lamp is blue, and the label reads Cnt OFF.

  • If the measured frequency falls outside of the tolerance range, a substitute frequency is displayed instead, the associated LED lamp turns red, and the label reads Substit (as shown in Fig. 20).

Temper Group

The Temper group displays temperature measured by the internal temperature sensor. If the temperature falls out of calibration range (typically 5 to 55 Celsius), the associated LED lamp changes color and label.

To toggle between Celsius (C) and Fahrenheit (F), click the temperature display. The conversion is based on the formulas

F = 32 + 1.8*C

C = (F – 32)/1.8

Power Group

The Power group displays measured incident, reflected and absorbed powers in various formats (changed by right-clicking the unit displays). If A/D converter overflows or Low Signal condition occurs the associated LED lamp changes color and label.

Error Byte

The Homer Error Byte (HER) is displayed as E in decimal and binary format. Based on breakdown of HER, the three rectangular “LED lamps” indicate by their color and adjacent text whether the measurement conditions are normal (green) or whether an error or warning condition has occurred. An example of one error (temperature too high) and two warnings (Substitute Frequency and Low Signal) is shown in Fig. 20.

Start/Stop

Starts and stops sweeping equivalently with the Homer|Run-Pause menu item.

Reduced-Size Results Window

The Reduced-size (Mini) Results window (Fig. 21) is preferable when the numerical data needs to be displayed without occupying much of the screen space. The window provides essentially the same information as the full-size window (it does not show the internal temperature and the Error Byte). The letters I, R, A indicate the incident, reflected, and absorbed powers, respectively.

Similarly to Maxi Results window, you can change the units by right-clicking particular displays and selecting from pop-up menus. The Magnitude display also enables toggling reflection coefficient between Input and Load (deembedded). The display type is identified by the window title.

A font color other than black indicates an error/warning condition. The colors correspond to the “LED” colors of the Maxi Results window.
